How to Propagate Hibiscus Plants?

Take a healthy stem cutting from a mature hibiscus plant

Choose a cutting with several leaves and at least one node

Cut just below a node using clean, sharp pruners

Remove flowers and most leaves from the cutting

Keep only a few leaves at the top if needed

Dip the cut end in rooting hormone

Fill a pot with moist, well-draining potting mix

Make a small hole in the soil

Insert the cutting into the hole

Firm the soil around the cutting

Water lightly to settle the soil

Cover the pot with a clear plastic bag or humidity dome

Place the pot in bright, indirect light

Keep the soil consistently moist, not soggy

Remove the cover briefly each day for airflow

Check for root growth after several weeks

Transplant the cutting once roots are established

Propagate by seeds if desired

Soak hibiscus seeds before planting

Sow seeds in moist seed-starting mix

Keep seeds warm and evenly moist

Move seedlings to individual pots after they grow

Propagate by air layering if preferred

Make a small wound on a healthy stem

Wrap the wound with moist sphagnum moss

Cover the moss with plastic wrap

Secure both ends tightly

Cut and pot the rooted section once roots form

Propagate by dividing established plants if applicable

Separate rooted sections carefully

Replant each division in fresh soil
