How To Tile A Shower?

Prepare the shower area and remove old tile, fixtures, and debris

Inspect framing, plumbing, and subfloor for damage and repair as needed

Install or confirm proper shower pan, waterproofing membrane, and backer board

Tape and thinset all backer board seams if required by the system

Plan the tile layout and mark level reference lines

Dry-fit tiles to avoid small slivers at edges and corners

Mix thinset mortar according to the manufacturer’s instructions

Apply thinset with the correct notched trowel

Set wall tiles starting from the reference line and work upward

Use tile spacers to maintain even grout joints

Cut tiles as needed for corners, edges, niches, and fixtures

Check tiles frequently for level, plumb, and alignment

Let the tile set fully before grouting

Remove spacers and clean excess thinset from joints

Apply grout with a grout float and pack joints fully

Wipe off grout haze with a damp sponge

Allow grout to cure according to the manufacturer’s instructions

Seal grout if required

Caulk all change-of-plane joints and corners with 100% silicone

Reinstall fixtures and clean the tiled shower area
