Meet Michigan eligibility requirements
Be at least 18 years old
Be a Michigan resident or maintain a business in Michigan
Be a U.S. citizen or legal resident
Be able to read and write English
Complete the Michigan notary application
Obtain the application from the Michigan Department of State
Take the required notary training course if applicable
Purchase a surety bond if required
Submit the completed application and fee
Wait for approval from the state
Receive your commission certificate
Purchase a notary seal/stamp
Keep a notary journal if desired or required by your practice
Follow Michigan notary laws and procedures
Renew your commission before it expires
