Choose a ripe pineapple with a healthy green crown
Twist or cut off the top, removing any fruit flesh from the base
Peel away a few lower leaves to expose about 1 inch of stem
Let the crown dry for 1 to 2 days
Place the crown in a glass of water with the stem submerged
Keep the leaves above the water line
Put the glass in bright, indirect sunlight
Change the water every few days
Wait for roots to grow, usually in 2 to 6 weeks
Plant the rooted crown in a pot with well-draining soil
Use a pot with drainage holes
Water lightly after planting
Keep the plant in warm, sunny conditions
Water when the top inch of soil feels dry
Fertilize lightly during the growing season
Repot as needed when the plant outgrows its container
Be patient, since fruiting can take 2 to 3 years or longer
