Remove the pit from a ripe avocado
Rinse the pit clean
Identify the top and bottom of the pit
Insert 3 to 4 toothpicks around the middle of the pit
Suspend the pit over a glass of water with the bottom half submerged
Place the glass in a warm spot with indirect sunlight
Change the water every few days
Wait for the pit to split and roots to grow
Wait for a stem and leaves to emerge
When the stem is several inches tall, transplant the pit into a pot with well-draining soil
Keep the top half of the pit above the soil
Water the plant regularly without overwatering
Place the pot in bright indirect light
Repot as the plant grows
