Collect ripe cherries and remove the pits
Clean all fruit flesh from the pits
Soak the pits in water for a few hours
Dry the pits briefly
Place the pits in a sealed bag with moist peat moss or sand
Refrigerate the bag for 10 to 12 weeks
Check occasionally to keep the medium slightly moist
Remove the pits from refrigeration after stratification
Plant each pit about 1 to 2 inches deep in potting soil
Water the soil lightly
Place the pot in a warm, sunny location
Keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy
Wait for germination
Transplant seedlings outdoors after they are strong enough
Choose a sunny planting site with well-drained soil
Space the young trees appropriately
Water regularly during establishment
