Remove the avocado seed from the fruit
Rinse the seed gently to remove any pulp
Identify the top and bottom of the seed
Insert 3 to 4 toothpicks around the middle of the seed
Suspend the seed over a glass of water with the bottom end submerged
Place the glass in a warm, bright location out of direct sunlight
Change the water every few days
Wait for roots and a stem to grow
When the stem is several inches tall, plant the seed in a pot with well-draining soil
Leave the top half of the seed above the soil
Water the soil lightly after planting
Keep the pot in a warm place with bright indirect light
Water when the top inch of soil feels dry
