Choose a ripe, healthy tomato
Cut the tomato open
Scoop out the seeds and pulp
Place the seeds and pulp in a cup or jar
Add a little water
Let the mixture ferment for 2 to 4 days
Stir once a day
Rinse the seeds thoroughly
Remove floating seeds and debris
Spread the seeds on a paper towel or plate
Let the seeds dry completely
Fill small pots or seed trays with seed-starting mix
Plant the dried seeds about 1/4 inch deep
Cover lightly with soil
Water gently
Keep the soil warm and moist
Place the pots in a bright location
Transplant seedlings after they develop true leaves
Move seedlings outdoors after hardening off
Plant in full sun and well-drained soil
