Take healthy, non-flowering stem cuttings in spring or early summer
Choose softwood or semi-hardwood stems about 3 to 4 inches long
Cut just below a leaf node with clean, sharp scissors or pruners
Remove leaves from the lower half of each cutting
Dip the cut end in rooting hormone if desired
Fill a small pot with well-draining potting mix or a sand-perlite mix
Make a hole in the soil and insert the cutting
Firm the soil gently around the stem
Water lightly to settle the soil
Place the pot in bright, indirect light
Keep the soil slightly moist, not wet
Cover with a clear plastic bag or humidity dome if needed
Remove any cover occasionally for airflow
Wait for roots to develop in several weeks
Transplant rooted cuttings into larger pots or the garden
Space plants in full sun with well-draining soil
Propagate by layering by bending a low stem to the ground
Pin a section of the stem under soil while keeping the tip exposed
Wait for roots to form before cutting it from the parent plant
Propagate by dividing mature plants only if they have multiple woody crowns
Avoid overwatering during propagation
