Let the engine cool completely
Disconnect the negative battery terminal
Remove any engine covers or intake parts blocking access
Blow away dirt and debris around the spark plug area
Unplug the ignition coil or spark plug wire
Remove the ignition coil or boot
Use the correct spark plug socket and extension
Turn the spark plug counterclockwise to loosen it
Remove the spark plug by hand once it is loose
Inspect the spark plug hole for damage or debris
Keep the spark plug clean if you plan to reuse it
