Open the bail
Run the line through the rod guides
Wrap the line around the spool
Tie an arbor knot
Tighten the knot
Trim the tag end
Close the bail
Apply steady tension to the line
Turn the reel handle to spool the line evenly
Fill the spool to the proper level
