Apply a warm compress to the affected eyelid for 10–15 minutes, 3–6 times per day
Gently massage the eyelid after the warm compress to help drainage
Keep the eye and surrounding area clean
Wash hands before and after touching the eyelid or applying compresses
Avoid squeezing, popping, or puncturing the stye
Do not use contact lenses until fully healed
Avoid eye makeup until fully healed
Use only lubricating, preservative-free artificial tears if needed for irritation
If advised by a clinician, use an antibiotic ointment or drops for the eye/eyelid
See a clinician promptly if symptoms worsen or do not improve within 48–72 hours
Seek urgent care if there is spreading redness around the eye, severe pain, fever, vision changes, trouble moving the eye, or significant swelling of the eyelid/face
If the stye is recurrent or persistent, ask about evaluation for underlying eyelid inflammation (e.g., blepharitis) and longer-term treatment
