Rest and avoid strenuous activity
Sip water or oral rehydration solution

Avoid greasy, spicy, or heavy foods
Avoid alcohol, caffeine, and carbonated drinks
Use a warm compress or heating pad on the abdomen
Try over-the-counter antacids if the pain is from indigestion
Try over-the-counter simethicone if the pain is from gas
Take over-the-counter pain relief only as directed on the label
Seek medical care if the pain is severe, persistent, or worsening
Seek urgent care if there is fever, vomiting, blood in stool or vomit, trouble breathing, chest pain, fainting, a hard swollen belly, or pain in the lower right abdomen
