Wash your hands
Use a clean neti pot
Fill it with sterile, distilled, or previously boiled and cooled water
Add the recommended saline packet or mix the correct saline solution
Stand over a sink and lean forward
Tilt your head to one side
Place the spout gently into the upper nostril
Breathe through your mouth
Pour the solution slowly so it flows through one nostril and out the other
Let about half the solution drain through each side
Repeat on the other nostril if needed
Blow your nose gently after rinsing
Clean the neti pot with sterile, distilled, or boiled and cooled water
Let the neti pot air-dry completely
