Choose a sunny location with well-drained soil
Break the garlic bulb into individual cloves
Select the largest, healthiest cloves for planting
Plant in fall or early spring, depending on your climate
Loosen the soil and remove weeds
Place each clove pointy end up, root end down
Plant cloves 2 inches deep
Space cloves 4 to 6 inches apart
Space rows 12 inches apart
Cover cloves with soil and gently firm it down
Water lightly after planting
Apply mulch to help retain moisture and suppress weeds
Keep the soil evenly moist, not soggy
Remove weeds as they appear
Harvest when lower leaves turn brown and tops begin to dry
