Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C)
Scrub and dry russet potatoes
Pierce each potato several times with a fork
Rub potatoes with oil and sprinkle with salt
Place potatoes directly on the oven rack or on a baking sheet
Bake for 45 to 60 minutes, until tender
Remove potatoes from the oven and let cool slightly
Slice each potato open lengthwise
Fluff the insides with a fork
Add butter
Add shredded cheese
Add sour cream
Add cooked bacon bits
Add chopped green onions
Add salt and pepper to taste
Serve immediately
