How to Plant Peony Roots?

Choose a sunny location with well-drained soil

Plant peony roots in fall for best results

Dig a hole wide and deep enough to spread the roots

Mix compost into the soil if needed

Place the root with the eyes facing up

Position the eyes no more than 1 to 2 inches below the soil surface

Spread the roots out in the planting hole

Backfill with soil and gently firm it

Water thoroughly after planting

Space peony roots 3 to 4 feet apart

Mulch lightly without covering the crown too deeply

Keep the soil moist but not soggy

Avoid planting too deep

Remove mulch in spring if it is too thick
