Choose a fresh, firm ginger rhizome with visible growth buds
Soak the rhizome in water overnight if desired
Cut into pieces with at least one or two buds each
Let cut pieces dry for 1 to 2 days to form a callus
Fill a wide pot or garden bed with rich, well-draining soil
Plant the rhizome 1 to 2 inches deep with buds facing up
Space pieces several inches apart if planting multiple sections
Water lightly after planting
Place in warm, bright, indirect light or partial shade
Keep soil consistently moist but not soggy
Add mulch to help retain moisture and warmth
Feed with a balanced fertilizer every few weeks during growth
Harvest after 8 to 10 months when leaves begin to yellow
