Wash your hands with soap and water.
Use distilled, sterile, or previously boiled and cooled water.
Prepare the neti pot by rinsing it with clean water.
Fill the neti pot with the prepared water.
Add the saline packet if provided, or mix saline according to the packet directions.
Stir until the saline is fully dissolved.
Lean over a sink and tilt your head forward and slightly to the side.
Place the spout into the upper nostril so water can flow through the nasal passage.
Breathe through your mouth.
Pour gently (or let gravity flow) so the solution drains out the other nostril.
Keep your head tilted so you don’t swallow water.
Continue until the neti pot is empty or the flow becomes uncomfortable.
Remove the neti pot and gently blow your nose.
Repeat on the other side.
Rinse the neti pot with clean water after use.
Air-dry the neti pot completely.
Store it in a clean, dry place.
Use only as directed by your healthcare provider or product instructions.
