Remove the avocado seed from the fruit and rinse off all flesh
Identify the top and bottom of the seed
Insert 3 to 4 toothpicks into the sides of the seed
Suspend the seed over a glass of water with the bottom half submerged
Place the glass in a warm spot with bright, indirect light
Change the water every few days
Wait for the seed to split and roots to grow
Wait for a stem and leaves to emerge
Fill a pot with well-draining potting soil
Plant the rooted seed in the soil with the top half above the surface
Water the soil lightly
Keep the soil moist but not soggy
Place the pot in bright, indirect light
Transplant to a larger pot as the plant grows
