Choose firm mushrooms such as portobello, cremini, shiitake, or button mushrooms
Clean mushrooms with a damp paper towel or soft brush
Trim stems if needed
Leave small mushrooms whole
Slice large mushrooms into even pieces or use whole portobello caps
Toss mushrooms with oil, salt, and pepper
Add optional seasonings such as garlic, herbs, soy sauce, or balsamic vinegar
Preheat the grill to medium-high heat
Oil the grill grates to prevent sticking
Place mushrooms directly on the grill or use a grill basket or skewers for small pieces
Grill mushrooms until browned and tender
Turn once or twice during grilling
Cook until they release moisture and develop grill marks
Remove from the grill and serve immediately
